Camps

We offer a variety of camps at LionHeart.  During the summer, we offer 5 day and 3 day summer camps.  We have a couple of more intense full week camps, aimed at our advanced riders, and a fun Cub Camp for our younger riders; our mini-camps are great for riders just getting started.  Riders learn about the everyday goings-on of the barn, such as cleaning stalls, feeding, grooming, and of course, riding.  During camp, we usually learn a lot about parts of the horse, tack, equipment, etc., and often have a trivia game at the end of the week.  Some camps have a more specific focus, too- see descriptions below!

Several times during the year, we offer day camps, which we call “Days at the Barn.”  These camps are a one-day event, similar to a summer camp, but in a shorter (and less expensive) format.  Check our calendar for the next scheduled Day Camp.  New students are welcome to join us for these camps!

Boot camps can be scheduled individually with Kate at any time.  Boot Camps can include as many lessons as your rider can do (usually 3 lessons per day for younger riders, as many as 5 for older riders).  Boot Camps are a great way to tune up before a big horse show or just to maximize the learning experience.

In order to ensure everyone’s safety, and because of limited openings and horses, most of our camps are intended for riders who already know the basic safety guidelines for being around horses and who intend to continue riding regularly after camp.  We do welcome riders from other lesson programs with the instructor’s approval, and work to improve that rider’s skills towards her horsemanship goals.

Upcoming camps at LionHeart:

Spring Break Camp 2018!  Full week $300, Individual Days $60

Monday- Buddy Day- Experienced riders at LionHeart are invited to bring a friend for the day, and split the cost of the day with that friend, or new riders to LionHeart will be paired with a more experienced rider.  Either way, everyone will have a fun day with friends, old and new!  9-3, $60.
Tuesday- Happy, Healthy Horses Day- Riders of all experience levels will learn the basics of keeping our horses happy and healthy.  9-3, $60.
Wednesday-  “Rule 51- Don’t Take Yourself So Seriously!” Day– By Wednesday of Spring Break last year, everyone was getting a little intense, and so we decided it was time to relax and remember to have fun- this year, we are just building it into the schedule!  We’ll see how it unfolds- bareback rides?  Driving lessons? A rousing game of horse bowling?  We’ll see– but all levels of riders are welcome!  9-3, $60
Thursday- Veterinary Medicine Day- We’ll learn all about some of the most common injuries and illnesses our horses suffer- especially those that have affected our horses at LionHeart!  We’ll have lessons in the morning, one lesson per rider, and then go to the University of Missouri Veterinary Hospital for a tour after lunch.  9-3, $60
Friday- Pattern Day– It’s a LionHeart tradition!  This day is appropriate for all riders who know how to guide and trot- riders are often intimidated by patterns but learn that they know more than they think already!  A great introduction to pattern work, or an opportunity for more practice for those who have started already. 9-3, $60
If 9:00-3:00 is tricky for your family due to work schedules, please let us know and we’ll see what we can arrange.  We would love to have all our riders gathered by 9:00, so if you need to be early anyway, I’m sure we can work it out, and if you need to pick up a little later, we’ll see what we can do about that.

Our most intense camp of the summer, this camp is best for riders who have been riding for a year or more and are interested in showing.  There will be a lot of work, but a lot of fun, too!  Riders will be involved in all parts of the horse show- packing, setting up, preparing the horses, tearing down, and shipping home.  Hotel and meals at the show are included.

Cub Camp

A great camp for our younger riders and for those with less experience, including those just starting.  Riders will ride once a day, and we’ll have a big craft project that we’ll work on throughout the week that will also be educational.  Some swimming will doubtless be included as well.

State Championship Boot Camp

July 26th-27th (2 days, at least 3 lessons per day) $250

This camp is designed to help our riders be ready for the State Championships at the State Fair Horse Show the following week.  Riders will ride at least 3 times per day, and we’ll also do some exercises off the horse to help improve strength and cardio fitness.  We promise some fun in there somewhere, too!

Last Summer Hoorah at the Barn

August 8-10 Days can be done individually or full camp for $150- $15 savings!

Wednesday, August 8- $60 Two riding lessons and plenty of good old-fashioned barn time for those wanting plenty of time with the horses.  Possibly a quick dip at the end of the day, but mostly barn time.

Thursday, August 9- $75 Warm Springs Ranch VIP Tour!!! We’ll load up and head to Boonville first thing for the VIP tour of the Budweiser Clydesdales’ Warm Springs Ranch.  We’ll see parts of the ranch not included in the regular tour, including the foaling area and the traveling equipment.  Please note: due to the reservation that must be made, we need an early signup for this camp and payment will be due to reserve your spot by May 5.  We are only allowed 16 spots on the tour, so we’ll see whether or not we have any space for parents to come as well.  We’ll come home after the tour, have lunch, and each rider will have one lesson after lunch.

Friday, August 10- $30 Field and Fun Day  All games, all fun, lunch provided by us, swimming in the afternoon- a big favorite way to end your summer!

Boot Camp!

Don’t forget our Boot Camp option!  Need to get in a little extra work before the Missouri State Academy Championships or Central States?  Schedule a private Boot Camp– as many lessons in a day as your rider can handle and we will specially plan the camp just for her!
You pay for the lessons at the package rate- $30/per lesson.
