Lessons

At LionHeart, we teach Saddle Seat style riding on American Saddlebred horses.  Saddle Seat is one form of English riding.  Because our number one goal is to provide our riders with the safest possible riding experience, we do not ever jump our horses over fences.  American Saddlebreds are a beautiful, versatile breed of horse who tend to be smart, good-tempered, and excellent teachers.

Safety is always our number one priority (followed closely by number two- FUN!!!).  Please go over these safety guidelines with your rider before your first lesson.  We do everything we can to keep riders and spectators safe, however, in the event of an accident, LionHeart Riding Academy and all associated staff, owners, instructors, etc., are not liable for damages under Missouri law.  Please take a moment to read and fill out this liability release.  A signed liability release must be on file for all riders at LHRA.

Age Range– We teach riders ages 4 and up- most of our students are children, but we always welcome adults!  For our youngest students, ages 4-5 and sometimes 6, we use a double saddle, which allows the instructor to sit behind the student on the horse and help him/her learn by feel more than through words.

Private vs. Group Lessons– We offer both private and group lessons, which are all the same duration and price.  This way, our instructors can choose the type of lesson that is best for our riders, with cost to the rider not an issue.  There are benefits to both private and group lessons, and as soon as a rider is ready, we move riders into a group lesson setting at least some of the time.

Prices– Lessons can be paid for individually or in a package.  Purchased individually, lessons are $40 each.  Purchased in a pre-paid package, lessons are $30 each.  Most of our families purchase a package at the beginning of each month.  We accept cash and checks; our apologies, but we do not accept credit cards at this time.

Duration and Frequency– Lessons are 30 minutes long.  All LionHeart students ride at least once a week.  The more frequently a rider rides, the faster s/he will progress, so for those who are serious about showing or want to learn more quickly, we suggest two or more lessons per week.
